The Season
Game 1: Lions 7 - Tigers 9
The season got off to a good start with a win over the Lions. Jim Quinn started the Game and got credit for the win after pitching 3 innings and giving up only 2 unearned runs. Jeff Marino, Shaun Pugh, Jim Quinn, and Nick Shipkowski each scored 2 runs.
Game 2: Indians 14 - Tigers 13
Jim Ambler started this game and gave up 5 runs in his two innings (3 runs earned) and got the no decision for his effort. The Tigers lost this game despite scoring 10 runs in the third inning, and Nick Shipkowski hit a two run home run in the forth inning (the only home run for the Tigers all season). Jeff Marino came in to pitch in the fourth and gave up 5 run (3 earned) for the loss.
Game 3: Greens 8 - Tigers 2
Matt Jedlinski Started this Game and gave up only 1 unearned run in 2 innings of work and received the loss. The only tigers to score in this game were Jim Quinn and Chris Miller, both reached base buy walking and were batted in by singles by Jeff Marino and Brian Carroll respectively. The only other hits in this game for the Tigers were 2 singles by Matt Jedlinski and a single for Frank Masterson.
Game 4: Hawks 19 - Tigers 5
Daniel Doughty started this game and gave up 5 runs (2 earned) in only one inning of work. Daniel was relieved in the second inning by Matt Jedlinski who gave up 5 run also (3 earned) and received the loss. Shaun Pugh drove in 3 runs with a triple in the first inning.
Game 5: Lions 9 - Tigers 8
Shaun Pugh pitched four strong innings and gave up only 3 unearned runs before being replaced by Jim Quinn in the fifth inning. Jim was rocked by errors and walks and gave up 6 runs (2 earned) in only 2/3 innings of work for the loss. Shaun Pugh knocked in 4 runs with a 3 run double and a sacrifice fly, Shaun also had 2 singles. Jim Quinn hit a single and triple to knock in 3 runs and score one himself. Nick Shipkowski scored 3 runs and Joe Guadalupe scored twice.
Game 6: Indians 11 - Tigers 5
Matt Jedlinski started this game and gave up 5 runs (1 earned) in 2 innings work to get the loss. Jeff Marino scored 2 runs and Jim Quinn, Frank Masterson, Chris Miller each scored one run. The Tigers only had 2 hits in this game, singles by Jeff Marino and Frank Masterson.
Game 7: Lions 13 - Tigers 12
Jim Quinn started this game and pitched 3 innings giving up only 2 unearned runs. Nick Shipkowski came in for the fifth inning and gave up 8 runs (5 earned) for the loss. Frank Masterson knocked in 3 runs with a triple and a single, Daniel Doughty knocked in 2 runs with a bases loaded single. Jim Quinn scored 2 runs on 2 walks.
Game 8: Hawks 11 - Tigers 7
Matt Jedlinski started and gave up 8 runs (6 earned) on 10 hits in 3 innings of work and received the loss. Shaun Kennedy, Matt Jedlinski, Jeff Marino, and Daniel Doughty led the Tigers offense with 2 hits each. Jeff Marino scored 2 runs.
Game 9: Indians 17 - Tigers 12
Matt Jedlinski Started and gave up 8 runs (5 earned) in 2 innings for the loss. Matt knocked in 3 runs on 2 hits and scored twice. Frank Masterson had 3 hits and Anthony Presto went 2 for 2 knocking in one run and scoring another. Jeff Marino, Nick Shipkowski, and Frank Masterson each scored twice.
Game 10: Tigers 10 - Greens 5
The Tigers eight game losing streak ends when Shaun Pugh takes the mound against the Greens. Shaun pitched 2 innings for the win, Nick Shipkowski pitched the third through the fifth innings, and Jim Quinn came in to close the game in the sixth. The three pitchers teamed up to pitch a one hitter with the only hit coming off Nick in the fifth inning (a double by Matt Galeone). Matt Jedlinski led the offense by Knocking in 3 runs with a pair of singles. Nick Shipkowski (1b & 2B)
and Frank Masterson (1b & 3b) each had two hits in the game.
Game 11: Hawks 17 - Tigers 6
Matt Jedlinski started and got the loss after giving up 8 runs (4 earned) in 2 innings and Shaun Pugh went 3 innings and gave up 9 runs (3 earned) in three innings work. Joe Guadalupe and Jeff Marino each had 2 hits and scored 2 runs and Shaun Pugh had 2 hits.
Game 12: Greens 21 - Tigers 3
Greens Revenge? Shaun Pugh was rocked for 7 runs (3 earned) in just 1 inning of work for the loss. Nick Shipkowski went 1 inning and Jim Quinn went 3 innings and gave up 7 runs each (Nick 5 earned, Jim 1 earned). Nick Shipkowski went 3 for 4, and Frank Masterson reached base twice on errors and 1 hit, each scored one run. Jim Quinn walked and scored the other run.
Game 13: Hawks 14 - Tigers 11
Jim Quinn started and went 3 innings giving up 8 earned run to receive the loss. Nick Shipkowski came in for the fifth inning and gave up only 2 runs (1 earned) without walking a batter in his two innings of work. Nick Shipkowski and Frank Masterson each had two hits. Jeff Marino and Nick each scored two runs. Jim Quinn knocked in three runs with a bases loaded double. Shaun Kennedy, Joe Guadalupe, and Nick each drew two walks.
Game 14: Lions 14 - Tigers 2
Chris Miller started his first game and went 2 innings giving up 6 runs (2 earned) to earn the loss.
Matt Jedlinski (1 inning), Anthony Presto (5 batters), and Jim Ambler (1 inning) each pitched in this game for the Tigers. Matt gave up 4 runs (2 earned), Anthony gave up 3 runs (2 earned), and Jim gave up just 1 unearned run. Jeff Marino and Frank Masterson scored the runs. Jeff, Daniel Doughty (2b), Joe Guadalupe, Shaun Kennedy, and Jim Ambler each had a hit in this game.
Game 15: Tigers 12 - Greens 6
Jim Quinn started and went 2 innings giving up only 2 runs (1 earned) to get credit for the win. Nick Shipkowski pitched the third and fourth innings giving up only 2 unearned runs without walking a batter. Nick went 2 for 4 and knocked in 4 runs, Frank Masterson hit a double and a triple and knocked in a pair of runs. Matt Jedlinski knocked in 3 runs with a bases loaded double. Jim Quinn scored twice with a pair of walks and a double.
Game 16: Tigers 8 - Greens 7
Jim Quinn started and went 4 innings, giving up 7 runs (6 earned) to get the win. Nick Shipkowski came in for the fifth inning to get credit for the save. Nick also knocked in 2 runs with a triple in the tigers seven run fourth inning. Matt Jedlinski, Anthony Presto, Shaun Kennedy, and Jim Ambler each singled during the fourth inning.
Wild card Playoffs
Game 1: Tigers 12 - Lions 10
Jim Quinn pitched a 2 hit complete game for the win, striking out 10 lions and giving up only 2 earned runs in six full innings. Jim Quinn also led the offense with 4 hits (3 of them doubles), scoring three times, and by knocking in three runs. A big surprise was Chris Miller going 2 for 2 after having only 1 hit in the regular season. Shaun Pugh had 3 hits and scored 2 runs, also scoring two runs were Jeff Marino and Nick Shipkowski.
Game 2: Lions 8 - Tigers 5
Shaun Pugh started and pitched 3 innings, giving up 6 runs (1 earned) for the loss. Nick Shipkowski pitched the final 3 innings giving up just 2 unearned runs. The Tigers seemed to have trouble getting runners home in this game as they left 12 runners stranded on base in this 6 inning game. Frank Masterson knocked in 2 runs with a triple, he also had a single in the game. Jim Quinn scored twice and had 2 hits. Jeff Marino, Shaun Pugh, and Nick Shipkowski each had 2 hits.
Game 3: Tigers 14 - Lions 1
Another complete game win for Jim Quinn. Jim struck out 10 batters again and gave up only 1 hit to put the Tigers into the playoffs. Shaun Pugh had 5 hits, 2 runs and 2 RBI, while Jeff Marino reached base 5 times and scored each time. Nick Shipkowski knocked in 3 runs, and Jim Quinn and Joe Guadalupe each knocked in 2. Chris Miller and Nick each scored 2 runs. Daniel Doughty, Frank Masterson, and Nick, each had a pair of hits. Shaun Kennedy and Anthony Presto each got their first hit of the playoffs.
The Playoffs
Game 1: Tigers 17 - Hawks 5
This game was the upset of the year, as the Tigers (4-12 reg. season) faced the first place Hawks (16-2 reg. season) in the opening round of the playoffs. Nick Shipkowski pitched four scoreless innings before getting into trouble and giving up 2 unearned runs in the fifth to earn the win. Shaun Pugh came in and gave up 3 unearned runs in 1 2/3 innings. Frank Masterson and Jim Quinn each knocked 4 runs with a triple and a pair of singles apiece. Jeff Marino scored 3 times while Nick Shipkowski, Jim Quinn, Matt Jedlinski, and Jim Ambler each scored twice. Matt Jedlinski had 3 hits and Jim Ambler, Nick Shipkowski, and Jeff Marino each had 2. Nick knocked in 3 runs.
Game 2: Indians 22 - Tigers 12
The loss of Matt Jedlinski (vacation) and Jim Quinn (injury) prior to this game may have played a large part to the performance of the team in this and the next game. In this game Nick Shipkowski started and went 3 innings giving up 14 runs (only 3 were earned) for the loss. Shaun Pugh pitched 2 innings and gave up 8 runs (5 earned). Jeff Marino went 5 for 5, scored 3 times and knocked in 2 runs. Frank Masterson had 3 hits, including 2 triples and scored 3 runs. Shaun Pugh, Nick Shipkowski, and Joe Guadalupe each had 2 hits and Joe drove in 2 runs.
Game 3: Hawks 19 - Tigers 1
Shaun Pugh pitched 2 innings and gave up 10 runs (1 earned) and got the loss, Nick Shipkowski pitched 3 innings and gave up 9 runs (1 earned) to finish the game. The pitchers got no support from their fielders (over 15 errors) or from the offense either. The Tigers only run came when Daniel Doughty reached base on an error, moved to third on a single by Chris Miller, then scored on a single by Jeff Marino. The only other hits in the game were a pair of singles by Frank Masterson.
Tiger Trivia
Did you know...
1. that the Tigers had 3 games in which they scored only 1 run, the last game against the Hawks, and 2 rain shortened games against the Indians. In each of these Daniel Doughty scored the only run and in two of the three Jeff Marino drove in that run (in the other game Daniel stole home).
